- The MicroHelp Utility (TMU) is an incredible combination of practical
- enhancements that save you time, trouble and money. All the little
- "helpers" you need in one small (as little as 10K) resident program.
-
- We've included the best features from a host of other utility packages,
- plus some features you won't find anywhere else. Forget about CED, PCED,
- Fansi Console, FlickerFree, Cruise Control, Tall Screen and all the
- others - we provide you with the best features of all of them in a single,
- small controllable program.
-
- TMU supports CGA, monochrome, EGA, VGA and Multisync monitors. This
- includes 43 line and 120/132 column modes, or any number of screen lines
- and columns that are set using the BIOS. In addtion, it is compatible with
- PS/2 systems, 80386, SuperKey and SideKick. If you have
- Lotus/Intel/Microsoft Expanded Memory, TMU takes only 10K of DOS memory!
-
- In addition to the features shown below, TMU provides FAST, full support for
- ANSI screen control commands. This means that you can remove ANSI.SYS from
- your CONFIG.SYS (unless you need keyboard redefinition).
-
- Here's a description of the features of the program, grouped by major function:
-
-
- Video Displays
- --------------
-
- No more flicker on IBM Color Graphics Adapters.
-
- Speed up data displays by as much as 1500%! All programs that use the BIOS
- will operate faster and the speed improvement when in DOS must be seen to be
- believed.
-
- Set your choice of foreground and background colors when in DOS and
- programs that send data to the screen without specifying attributes. This
- includes colors you didn't know were possible on CGA monitors.
-
- Turn snow checking on and off at will.
-
- Timed or "hot key" screen burn-in protection. Use your selectable hot key
- to turn off your monitor(s) when somebody looks over your shoulder while
- you are working with confidential data. This works with TWO monitors.
-
- A 26th line (yes, 26) system display for monochrome and CGA monitors.
- (EGA's and laptops can use bottom screen line when in DOS). Have the date,
- time and status of Caps Lock, Num Lock, Scr Lock and Insert state.
-
- View data that has scrolled off the top of your screen. If you have two
- monitors, you can view the data on the inactive monitor. You can "freeze"
- the data in your scrollback buffer anytime you're looking at the data.
-
- With two monitors, you can duplicate the contents of the active display
- onto the inactive display. Do this every n ticks or with a selectable hot
- key. (Timed duplication is disabled if snow checking is on.)
-
- If you have a composite monitor, or monochrome monitor attached to a color
- board, you can tell TMU to use white on black displays.
-
- Keyboard
- --------
-
- Set your own keyboard repeat rate. Boost cursor speed and stop cursor
- "run-on". If you use slow cursor programs like Microsoft Word and Lotus
- 1-2-3, you're going to love this feature.
-
- Full editing power for commands entered at the DOS prompt. Use standard
- editing keys without erasing characters.
-
- Recall, edit and execute previously entered DOS commands. Delete one or
- all commands from the buffer.
-
- Multiple DOS commands on a single input line. Optionally tell TMU to
- cancel the remaining commands if the DOS errorlevel is set by a command.
- You select the hot key that separates multiple commands on one line.
-
- Expanded keyboard buffer (127 characters) that can be turned off when
- using other buffering programs, like SuperKey.
-
- Use F11 and F12 keys as "hot keys", including combinations with Alt, Ctrl
- and either or both shift keys.
-
- Case filtering of DOS input - you can force upper or lower case entry.
-
- Intercept Shift-PrtSc when no printer is attached or the printer is off line.
-
- Have a solid, non-blinking cursor when in DOS.
-
- Choose your own cursor sizes in DOS and all programs that set the cursor
- size via software - you set the size for overstrike and insert mode.
-
- Send a form feed to your printer with a selectable hot key.
-
- When in DOS, press and hold the Scroll Lock key and your display is
- suspended. Release the key and the display resumes. We also include the
- ability to suspend the display with Ctrl-Num Lock - resume with any other key.
-
-
- Aliases
- -------
-
- Use aliases as "shorthand" or replacements for batch files. For example,
- you tell The MicroHelp Utility that when you type in "Orange", it should
- translate it to all or part of:
-
- CD \fruits\citrus\oranges
- QB orange;
- LINK orange;
- orange
- cd \dos
-
- Miscellaneous
- -------------
-
- Set a wake-up alarm to beep at you when the alarm time is reached. You can
- set and reset the alarm anytime from DOS.
-
- TMU can be turned off and on or even removed from memory entirely.
-
- Most features can be set from the configuration menu - naturally, on-line
- help is available.
-
- All features can be set and changed from the DOS command line.
-
-
- Memory Usage
- ------------
-
- The MicroHelp Utility will use LIM Expanded Memory if it is available. The
- program takes 10K of DOS memory plus buffer space. One buffer holds the
- DOS commands available for recall (minimum of 1K), another holds the
- "scrollback" data (no minimum) and the third holds "ALIAS" definitions.
-
- Since you can configure the buffer sizes (as well as all the other
- features), the total amount of memory used is up to you. Note that a
- maximum of 64K can be used for total buffer space. Therefore, memory
- usage is as follows:
-
- With EMS No EMS
- -------- ------
-
- Minimum DOS RAM Used
- (1K Command buffer) 10K 11K
-
- Maximum DOS RAM Used
- (64K buffers) 10K 75K
